About
Stephen Quissy is a photographer, a ceramicist, and a high school art teacher who lives in Vancouver, BC. He spent 17 years working in and around the Port of Vancouver as a cargo surveyor, and during this time, he used his camera to document the visual world in which he worked. He follows in the footsteps of his late father, Earnest Quissy, who also worked on and photographed the waterfront in the 1950s and 1960s. When viewed together, these images span some 70 years, exploring connections between father and son through work and photography, as well as the alienation of labour caused by automation and global trade.
All photographs are shot on various types of 35mm film.
Stephen also loves the beauty and practicality of pottery and has been working as a ceramic artist for over a decade.
